Useful Travel Phrases For Spain

Sometimes, being able to communicate effectively just requires a handful of common Spanish phrases. Just using a few appropriate Spanish phrases is enough for you to be understood and to eliminate the need for funny gestures.

At first, it will be acceptable to make an adorable fool of yourself but being understood is surely the better way.

Using the following phrases will let others know that you only have a few Spanish words and phrases:

No hablo español -I don’t speak Spanish
Habla usted inglés? -Do you speak English?
No comprendo – I do not understand
Mas lentamente/despacio, por favor-Speak more slowly, please

Spanish Dining Made Easy

Wherever you want to eat, be it in a private home, a small diner, a hotel or a big restaurant, these phrases will help you:

Tengo hambre – I am hungry
Tengo sed -I’m thirsty
Quiero ver el menu, por favor -I would like to see the menu, please
Quiero pedir, por favor – I would like to order, please
La cuenta, por favor – May I have the bill, please?

Often, menus come with pictures and with familiar names such as arroz (rice), pollo (chicken), ensalada mixta (mixed salad), and patatas (potatoes). The majority of tourists will just choose these. But then again, why not be a bit more adventurous

Spanish to Track Your Money

These few phrases will help you with your money changing:

Quiero cambiar algunos cheques de viaje, por favor -I would like to change some travelers checks, please
Donde se puede cambiar dinero? -Where can we change some money?
Cuendo abre/cierre el banco? -When does the bank open/close?

Spanish to help if you need medical assistance:

Estoy enfermo -I am sick.
Podra llamar a un medico, por favor?-Could you please call a doctor?

It’s relatively easy to tell your doctor where it hurts or how you feel by making a few gestures. But as your condition gets complicated, it’ll be advisable for you to employ a translator.

Spanish to Get You Help

Use these very essential Spanish phrases in case of emergency:

Socorro! -Help!
Hay una comisara de policias cerca? – Is there a police station nearby?

You would hope that the police shall be able to provide assistance particularly in cases when you lost your passport or when you want to report a theft. They will also welcome you in case you require their help because you are lost.
